The brass plate protected the reference edge from wear, while the inlay strengthened the joint and added a decorative flourish uncommon on factory-made squares. Surviving examples in this condition, especially with a clean, pit-free blade, are increasingly scarce.

Dimensions: (Blade) 10-3/4” x 2-3/8” (Stock) 6-1/4’ X 1-7/8” X 3/4"
Weight: 12.7 oz.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition overall with only age-appropriate surface wear. Ebonized hardwood stock shows a deep, even patina with scattered marks and small dents from long-term use, including one minor age-earned notch on one shoulder. Full-length brass wear plate is clean and untarnished, seated tightly, and free from bends or lifting. Decorative brass cross-form inlay remains fully intact with no losses or movement. Steel blade is straight, firmly fitted, and notably clean for its age, showing no pitting, corrosion, or staining. All joints between blade, stock, and brass fittings remain solid with no gaps or play. Tool has been lightly waxed and polished. Other items in photos not included.

Note: due to size, this item will not be gift-boxed. We offer flat rate shipping via USPS Ground Advantage for $10, or USPS Priority Mail for $15.
