Brass face plate displays surface wear and light scratches from use, with all graduations and lettering remaining clear and legible. Forged iron ring, frame, and hook show surface wear, with no discernible cracks, losses, or repairs.  Markings on dial include VR 341, SALTERS SPRING BALANCE, CLASS III, TO WEIGH 200 LBS, SILVESTER’S PATENT, along with the firm’s knotted rope trademark.  Scale has been lightly waxed; brass has not been polished in order to retain original patina.
