Rabone \u0026amp; Sons was founded in Birmingham in 1784 and became one of Britain’s principal manufacturers of measuring tools during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The No. 1625 level was produced in multiple sizes and used widely by joiners and carpenters for checking horizontal and vertical alignment in interior and cabinet work. Rosewood bodies with brass top plates were characteristic of Rabone’s higher-grade levels prior to the 1963 merger with Chesterman.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDimensions: 10” x 1-3\/8” x 3\/4”\u003cbr\u003eWeight: 5.1 oz.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition Notes: Very good vintage condition overall, with scattered surface wear, small marks, and light scratches consistent with age.  Rosewood body retains a rich, even tone with no cracks or splits observed. Brass top plate and end caps show fine surface scratches appropriate to a working tool, all screws secure and seated properly. Horizontal and vertical vials are intact and fully functional; the top glass vial shows visible internal residue along the lower interior of the tube; liquid remains clear and the bubble is present, responsive, and easy to read.. Top plate stamped “J. RABONE \u0026amp; SONS,” “BIRMINGHAM,” “MADE IN ENGLAND,” “WARRANTED,” “No 1625,” and “CORRECT.” Level has been lightly cleaned and polished.
