By the mid-1900s, they had evolved toward more practical forms while retaining the same purpose—keeping biscuits and crackers fresh at table. Oak body remains clean, smooth, and evenly toned with no cracks, lifting, or discoloration, and shield cartouche shows no engraving or removal marks. Lid shows a dull gray line on one side of the plated surface (see photo), visible only under angled light and not distracting to overall appearance. Stoneware liner is intact and secure with no discernible chips or cracks, and sits firmly within the oak body.
