For the history buff … an original framed print titled “British Grenadiers,” from an 1890 watercolor by renowned military artist Richard Simkin (1850-1926).  It is part of the “Military Types” series of full-color lithographs published between 1888 and 1902 by George Berridge of London.  In excellent condition, the print is elegantly presented under glass with French matting and an attractive black frame with gold filet.  Measuring 15-1/4 x 17-3/4, it would make a distinguished addition to a gentleman’s office or study.

Richard Simkin was an artist and illustrator renowned for his depictions of the British military.  Over a period of more than 50 years, Simkin produced thousands of paintings of Army uniforms, life, and campaigns.  Many of the original works can be seen in regimental museums and messes.

The Grenadier Guards are one of the oldest and most distinguished regiments of the British Army, and earned their name after defeating Napoleon’s grenadiers at Waterloo in 1815. As part of the Household Division, today they are best known for their ceremonial roles, famously guarding Buckingham Palace and participating in state occasions with unmatched precision and pageantry.
