1920s English Leather Hip Flask with Silver-Plated Cup | Antique 5-1/4 Inch Flask with Bayonet Cap

For the man on the go … a handsome English leather-clad hip flask dating from around 1910-1925. Measuring 5-1/4 inches high, it features a clear glass body, black leather upper, a cork-lined bayonet-style cap, and a removable silver-plated cup with a gilt interior. The flask is in excellent antique condition, with bright plate, clear glass, and leather showing remarkably little wear for its age.  Exceptionally well-preserved, it would make an inspired gift for the outdoorsman or gentleman traveler.  

Hip flasks of this type were made for carrying spirits discreetly while traveling, attending sporting events, or spending time outdoors. The leather covering helped protect the glass body, while the removable metal cup shielded the base and provided a convenient drinking vessel.  Bayonet-style caps were designed to allow quick access while remaining securely fastened during travel and outdoor use.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition overall. Silver-plated cup remains bright with only light surface wear consistent with age and use, including very fine scratches and two small specks of plate loss on one side. Leather covering displays only light surface wear, and all visible seams remain secure. Glass body is clean and clear and free from any visible damage. Bayonet-style cap opens and closes securely. Cork lining inside cap shows some loss (see photos).  Glass body exhibits slight movement within leather covering when cap is opened or handled, but this does not affect structural integrity.  No maker’s mark present; underside of cup bears a small stamped “5,” likely a factory/workshop number or internal production/quality code.
