1930s James Dixon Silver-Plated Hip Flask, Model 45 | Vintage 4-1/2 Inch English Flask with Hammered Finish

For the man of style … a handsome English silver-plated hip flask by James Dixon & Sons, Model No. 45, dating from around 1935–1945.  Measuring 4-1/2 inches high and holding 4 fluid ounces, the flask is made from electroplated Britannia metal with a finely hammered finish, and features a monogrammed cartouche (“TS” or possibly “JS”), and a knurled screw cap.  In excellent vintage condition with bright plate throughout, it would make a striking addition to a gentleman’s drinks cabinet, side table, or travel bar.

Founded in Sheffield in 1806, James Dixon & Sons became one of Britain’s leading manufacturers of silver, electroplated wares, and sporting accessories. The firm exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851, where it received prizes for silver and Britannia-metal work, and later produced designs by influential designer Christopher Dresser. James Dixon & Sons remained at Cornish Place in Sheffield for generations and absorbed fellow Sheffield manufacturer William Hutton & Sons in 1930.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall with bright silver-plated finish throughout. Visible light surface wear consistent with age and use, including scattered fine scratches, small handling marks, and one tiny area of plate loss on front face. Small shallow dent is visible at one corner of monogram cartouche, with no resulting distortion or structural issue. Hammered surface remains crisp and evenly defined across front and reverse. Screw cap turns on and off easily and closes firmly in place; interior of cap is unlined. Base marked “MADE IN ENGLAND,” “JD&S” with Dixon trumpet logo, “EPBM,” “45,” “4 OZS,” and “F.H.” Other items shown in photos not included.
