24-Inch Rabone Folding Ruler No. 1167 | Mid-Century English Craftsman Tool in Boxwood & Brass

For the craftsman … a classic 24-inch mid-century Rabone folding ruler, Model No. 1167. Crafted from solid boxwood with brass joints and endplates, this two-foot rule remains in excellent condition, with crisp, legible markings throughout.  A fine example of practical English design and an ideal gift for the craftsman, teacher, or anyone who appreciates vintage tools.

John Rabone & Sons, founded in the early 19th century, set the standard for wooden measuring tools long before merging with Chesterman in 1963.  The 1167 was part of the firm’s “Tradesman’s” series, produced in Birmingham during the 1940s and 1950s for joiners and cabinetmakers who required a durable, slightly heavier rule for everyday use.  It represents the final generation of Rabone’s all-boxwood rules before later composite versions took over.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall. Boxwood body retains smooth surfaces and rich color with only minor scratches and small marks from light use. Brass joints and endplates show faint surface wear and minimal tarnish, all fittings secure and original. Graduations and maker markings remain sharp, dark, and fully legible along both sides. Rule folds and unfolds smoothly with firm, even tension. When folded, ruler sits slightly off-true, typical of age and shrinkage, but alignment and function are unaffected.
