Antique English Hip Flask c. 1905–1920 | 5-3/4-Inch Leather-Clad Glass Flask

For the traditionalist … an English leather-clad hip flask dating to around 1905–1920, 5-3/4 inches tall and fully wrapped in a rich, time-softened leather with a narrow viewing window and matching leather-covered screw cap.  Substantial, extremely tactile, and with a refined presence, the flask would make a treasured gift and a striking display piece for a gentleman’s desk or bar shelf.

Leather flasks of this type, with no visible maker’s marks, were produced in the years just before and after the First World War. The molded glass body on ours shows the greenish tint typical of early 20th-century glass, while the leather-clad construction—including the cap—is an unusual detail seen far less often than the more common exposed metal fittings.  The leather itself has aged to a warm, even tone, and the stitching remains intact throughout, making this an especially well-preserved example of its era.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition overall with expected wear from age and use. Leather wrap remains fully intact and secure, showing areas of darkening and tonal variation, including to the shoulder, rear of the flask, and top of the cap, consistent with handling and likely exposure during outdoor use; no cracking, losses, or lifting observed. Stitching throughout remains intact with no visible fraying. Cap screws on and off easily and closes tightly with no cross-threading or looseness. Interior glass bottle intact with no discernible cracks or chips. Base remains stable and flask stands flat on a surface with no wobble.
