Antique English Two-Piece Gun Cleaning Rod c. 1900-1925 | Hardwood & Brass Sporting Accessory

For the sportsman … an antique English two-piece gun cleaning rod, measuring a little under 34 inches once assembled and dating to around 1900-1925.  Constructed from ebonized hardwood with brass ferrules and threaded fittings, the two sections were designed to be joined for use and separated for storage in a gun case or sporting bag. Retaining an attractive dark finish and rich patina throughout, the rod would make a unique gift and distinctive display piece for a gentleman’s study, library, or sporting collection.

Cleaning rods of this type were carried by sportsmen for the routine maintenance of shotguns and sporting rifles used for game shooting, stalking, and other field pursuits. The sectional design allowed the rod to fit neatly into a travelling gun case, while brass fittings resisted corrosion and provided secure attachment points for cleaning accessories. Cleaning brushes, jags, and patch holders could be attached to the working end, allowing the user to remove fouling and apply oil after a day's shooting. Examples such as ours were common equipment for British shooters during the Edwardian and interwar periods.

Condition Notes: Overall in excellent antique condition, retaining an attractive dark finish and rich patina throughout. Hardwood shaft shows minor surface wear, handling marks, and scattered areas of finish loss consistent with age and normal use. Brass ferrules and threaded fittings display expected surface wear, light scratches, and areas of age-related oxidation, most noticeably at working end where cleaning accessories would originally have been attached. Both sections remain straight and structurally sound, joining securely and unscrewing easily as intended. No cracks, splits, repairs, or other structural concerns noted. No discernible maker's marks visible. Other items shown in photos not included.
