Well-used but still perfectly functional, this vintage ruler—likely dating from the 1940s or 1950s—bears the marks of a working life while retaining its original brass end caps and tight, smoothly folding joints. It would make a handsome addition to a gentleman’s workshop, home office, or collector’s shelf—ideal for a craftsman, teacher, or lover of old tools.
John Rabone & Sons were a pre-eminent British manufacturer of rules and measuring devices, with origins dating back to the late 1700s. The No. 1167 was one of their most popular models, produced throughout the early- to mid-20th century, though surviving 36-inch examples are much less common than the more standard 24-inch version. Rabone operated as a family business in Birmingham until its 1963 merger with Chesterman & Co of Sheffield.

Condition notes: Good vintage condition overall, showing clear signs of age and use. The boxwood has darkened from handling and exhibits scattered surface marks and light staining throughout, but the wood remains sound with no cracks or major damage.
