Crown-Stamped 1/3 Gill Spirit Measure by Bonzer | Vintage English Pub-Certified Jigger

For the mixologist … a vintage British 1/3 gill spirit measure (jigger) by Bonzer, of the kind once found behind proper British pub counters before metrification. Crown-stamped and inspector-numbered (1168 over 75), it’s an authentic spirits measure with history, weight, and the kind of clean, purposeful design that would look right at home on a gentleman’s bar cart, drinks tray, or shelf of well-chosen curiosities.

The 1/3 gill size is genuinely uncommon. Most surviving examples are the smaller 1/6 gill pub standard, making this larger version both more substantial and far more distinctive. In Imperial terms, a gill was one-quarter of a pint, and fractions of it were used to accurately pour whisk(e)y and spirits for centuries. A certified measure like this—complete with its crown verification mark—was an everyday working tool, designed for precision and built to last.

Bonzer began producing barware in the 1930s and quickly became a favorite of bartenders who valued durability over flash. Their pre-metric metal measures, especially the crown-stamped versions, have earned a quiet following among collectors for their heft, honest utility, and unmistakably British character.

Condition notes: Excellent condition overall with only the faintest surface marks from age and handling. Nickel-plated finish is bright and even throughout, with no dents, distortions, rim wear, or plating losses. Stamping is crisp and fully legible, including “1/3 GILL,” the Bonzer maker’s mark, and the official crown verification mark with inspector numbers “1168” over “75.” Interior is clean and free of residue, and base shows minimal signs of prior use. Measure retains its original weight, shape, and rolled rim with no damage or repairs. Other items in photos not included.
