For the cocktail enthusiast … a vintage deco-style silver-plated 1/6 gill spirit measure (jigger) by famed British maker Bonzer. Stamped with the royal crown, locality stamp of 1051 and a date stamp for 1968. A very sturdy piece of kit that would make a unique addition to a gentleman’s home bar or cocktail tray.
Introduced in the 14th century, the gill was primarily used to measure individual servings of whisk(e)y or wine, and in the British Imperial system, was defined as one-fourth of a standard pint. Prior to metrification (1965), 1/6 gill was the standard spirit measure in UK pubs (except for the Scots, who had their own set of measurements.)
Bonzer is a British company specializing in barware, and has a rich history dating back to the 1930s. The company began as a silverware manufacturer, but early on began developing its first line of barware products, which quickly gained popularity and established Bonzer as a favorite of professional bartenders, in particular for the products’ durability.
