For the entertainer … a pair of stylish English silver-plated serving utensils from the early 1900s: a horn-handled pickle fork (likely deer or stag) and a handsome pâté knife featuring an engraved blade, silver-toned collar and end cap, and richly textured composite handle.  Though not a matched set, the two complement each other beautifully, and would add a sophisticated, “country house” touch to an appetizer spread, bar cart, or charcuterie tray.

The knife is by Christopher Johnson & Co., a successful Sheffield cutler founded in 1836 and known for its quality plated tableware and hunting knives. At the height of its success, the firm enjoyed a thriving global trade supplying award-winning cutlery to customers in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, before being absorbed by Wostenholm in 1955.  Both the fork and knife in our set likely date from the 1910s-1930s, when horn-handled cutlery was especially popular as a nod to country life and the hunting tradition.

Dimensions: (Fork) 7-3/4” x 5/8” x 1/2”; (Knife) 7-3/8” x 3/4” x 3/8”
Weight: (Combined) 2.4 oz.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall. Both pieces display typical light surface scratches consistent with gentle use and both polish beautifully. Handles are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and fit securely to the collars. Fork handle is natural horn, likely deer or stag, with attractive grain and warm patina; collar is non-silver metal and tang is stamped “EPNS.”  Knife handle is a richly textured composite, with silver-toned collar and end cap. Engraved blade on knife remains crisp and well-defined. Maker’s mark “CJ & Co” on knife is clear. Both have been lightly polished and are ready for use or display.  Hand wash only.  See photos for more detail and feel free to contact the shop with any questions prior to purchase. Plate in photos not included.
