Measuring 2-1/8” in length and in remarkable condition, the piece is elegantly engraved with scrollwork and paired with its original faux amber mouthpiece. As a fashionable accessory of its time, it once hung from a gentleman’s watch chain—ready to use at clubs, or perhaps at seaside retreats. It would make a special gift for the collector, cigar enthusiast, or anyone drawn to the rituals of a more civilized age.
Cheroot holders came into vogue during the late 19th century as short cigars grew fashionable among English gentlemen. This example remains in excellent condition, complete with a working hinge and a gilt-lined interior lid, a practical and decorative feature typical of fine Edwardian silverwork.
Adie & Lovekin Ltd were renowned Birmingham silversmiths, celebrated for their finely crafted small silverwares—including vesta cases, sovereign holders, and smoking accessories. Their work, prized for both quality and ornamentation, epitomizes the elegance of Edwardian gentleman’s accessories.
