For the writer … an exquisite Art Nouveau pewter and glass inkwell from around 1900, likely either French or German in manufacture. The flowing, organic lines of the pewter lid, the stylized floral motifs, and the overall aesthetic are all hallmarks of Art Nouveau. Originally designed to sit atop a matching pewter stand, the inkwell stands beautifully on its own and would make a charming addition to a gentleman’s desk or side table.
The Art Nouveau movement flourished from around 1890 to 1910. As a style, it sought to integrate art into everyday life, rejecting the separation of "fine art" from functional objects. At the time, inkwells were essential desk accessories, making them ideal candidates to be transformed into decorative pieces.
Condition notes: Some minimal wear to lid consistent with age and use. No visible chips or cracks in glass. Overall, in excellent antique condition. See photos for more detail or DM the shop with any questions prior to purchase.
