English Leather Flask Case c. 1900–1930 | Antique Equestrian Sporting Accessory

For the horseman … an English leather flask case dating to around 1900–1930, measuring approximately 10 inches high and constructed from thick brown leather with a hinged lid and reinforced stitched seams. The case is exceptionally sturdy and well made, with a deep reddish-brown patina and an “H” stamped into the underside of the lid. Its tall oval form was almost certainly designed to hold a similarly shaped glass drinking flask, probably with a removable cup or nested cups. Substantial in scale and highly decorative, it would make a distinctive addition to a bar, study, or collection of equestrian antiques.

Cases of this type were made to protect drinking flasks carried for travel and outdoor sport, particularly by gentlemen riding, shooting, or attending country meets. A broad leather keeper and reinforced fittings on the reverse suggest that a separate strap originally passed around or through the case, allowing it to be secured to a saddle, belt, or other field equipment while riding.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition overall.  Leather remains structurally sound and supple, with small scratches, minor spotting, and areas of discoloration visible across exterior surfaces, consistent with age and use in the field. Stitching is tight and intact throughout with no visible fraying, looseness, or repairs noted. Hinged lid opens and closes properly, and clasp engages and releases as intended. Interior remains clean overall, with an “H” clearly stamped into underside of lid. Leather has been lightly cleaned and conditioned. Other items in photos not included.
