For the countryman … an English leather-cased sandwich tin dating to around 1925–1940, complete with its original saddle attachment strap and twin belt loops. The solid steel tin weighs a substantial 11 ounces and sits within a handsome leather case bearing the monogram “J.M.B.” The leather shows a deep, even patina with tight stitching and working hardware throughout. As a classic equestrian accessory of its time, it would make a special gift for anyone drawn to the country sport tradition and would display beautifully alongside flasks, field glasses, or other kit.
Sandwich tins of this type were sold through saddlers and sporting outfitters for use in the hunt and at shooting meets. The belt loops and saddle strap allowed the case to be attached to tack or worn securely at the waist, while the rigid steel box protected a gentleman’s lunch from being crushed in a saddlebag or coat pocket. The weight and robust construction of our example are typical of the interwar period, when more durable stainless steels had become common for field gear and country sport remained a defining feature of British life.
Dimensions: (Box) 5-1/8” x 3-1/8” x 1-1/2”; (Case) 5-9/16” x 3-1/2” x 1-3/4” not including straps

Condition notes: Very good vintage condition overall displaying honest wear consistent with age. Leather case remains structurally sound with tight stitching, secure belt loops, and working hardware; surface shows an even, time-earned patina with minor scuffs and small areas of darkening consistent with handling and use in the field. Adjustable saddle attachment strap is intact and functional. Steel sandwich tin is solid and retains good weight, with no dents, splits, or distortion; hinge operates smoothly and lid closes flush. Exterior remains largely clean with light surface marks from handling, though the reverse panel shows visible clouding and finish wear, and minor verdigris is present at two edges consistent with long-term contact with the leather case. Interior displays visible oxidation and darkened areas from age and prior use, all stable and cosmetic rather than structural. Leather case has been lightly cleaned and waxed. Other items in photos not included.
