English Silver Plate & Leather Hip Flask by James Dixon | 5-1/4 Inch Pocket Flask, Model 683A

For the traveler … a substantial mid-century gentleman’s flask by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, measuring 5-1/4 inches high and holding 3/16 pint. The upper half is clad in warm brown leather with an elongated viewing window, while the lower half forms a detachable silver-plated cup. The screw-top closure is lined with cork as originally fitted, and the overall condition is excellent—ideal for weekend shoots, long rail journeys, or cold-weather walks, but equally at home on a desk or bar cart.  

Founded in 1806, James Dixon & Sons quickly rose to prominence as one of England’s most respected and prolific makers of fine metal goods. Renowned for their craftsmanship and innovation, the company produced a wide range of luxury items, including silver-plated hip flasks, tableware, and sporting goods.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall. Silver plate on the detachable cup is bright with only faint surface scuffing from age and handling. Screw-top cap opens and closes cleanly, retains its original cork lining, and shows a minor dent visible only on close inspection. Leather wrap is complete, smooth, and well-fitted, with gentle age darkening on one side and a few small edge rubs. Leather remains secure with no cracks, lifting, or structural issues.  Glass body is clear and free of chips and fogging. Base stamped with the James Dixon trumpet mark, EPBM (for Electro Plated British Metal), 683A (model number), Made in England, and 3/16 pint (size). Other items in photos not included.
