English Silver-Plated Wine Coaster by Barker Ellis | Pierced Mid-Century Tableware

For the entertainer … a finely made vintage English silver-plated wine coaster by Barker-Ellis. This elegant piece features a pierced gallery with a repeating leaf motif, a classic gadroon rim, and a turned hardwood base with deep concentric rings and central metal boss, with the maker’s mark clearly stamped to the silver-plated rim. In excellent condition, it’s the sort of classic, understated piece that makes a thoughtful gift for the gentleman host or wine-lover.

Wine coasters combine function and elegance, guarding the table from drips and spills while adding a refined note to any bar or dinner setting. At 5-5/8” in diameter, ours easily accommodates most standard bottle sizes including large formats like champagne. It was made by Barker-Ellis of Birmingham, a respected English silversmith known for elegant silverplate tableware throughout the 20th century.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall with only minor surface wear consistent with gentle use. Silver plate is clean and even throughout with no visible base metal, and the pierced gallery shows no distortion, bending, or loss to the pattern. Turned hardwood base is smooth and well-preserved with no splits or lifting. Felt underside shows light, expected wear from age and handling. Rim is stamped “BARKER ELLIS” and “MADE IN ENGLAND.” Other items in photos not included.
