For the man on the go … a magnificent 1930s leather and silver plate hip flask by James Dixon and Sons of Sheffield, perhaps the best-known English maker of drinking flasks in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The flask’s cap is lined with cork and opens easily with a simple half twist, whilst the lower half is a removable drinking cup. At 4-1/2” high, it was made to a size that would slip easily into a gentleman’s pocket.
Founded in 1806, James Dixon & Sons quickly rose to prominence as one of England’s most respected and prolific makers of fine metal goods. Renowned for their craftsmanship and innovation, the company produced a wide range of luxury items, including silver-plated hip flasks, tableware, and sporting goods.
The cap is marked JD&S on one side and the firm’s trumpet/banner logo on the other. At the bottom of the removable cup are marks for the size of flask (1/8 pint), the company’s initials and logo, EPBM (Electroplated Brittania Metal), Made in England, and the model number 562A.
Size: 4-1/2” x 2-3/4” x 1”
Weight: 8.0 oz.
Condition notes: minor dents and indentations to the cap as is usual for a flask of this age. Some base metal visible near the hinge cap, but otherwise silver plate is in very good condition and polishes beautifully. Leather cover is tight and secure. No scratches or other damage to glass vessel. See photos for more detail or contact the shop with any questions before purchase.
