For the cocktail enthusiast … a rare, large Victorian silver-plated novelty thimble cup by esteemed British silversmith William Hutton & Sons. The cup is engraved “Just a Thimble Full” in elegant lettering below the rim, and bears the mark “WMH&S,” dating it to between 1864 and 1893, when the firm incorporated and changed its mark to “WMH&SL” (adding “L” for “Limited.”)
Thimble cups are more commonly jigger-sized (around 2 ounces), and so this is an extraordinarily large version, standing 3-5/8” tall and holding a generous 10 fluid ounces. A true collector’s piece, the cup would add a spark of whimsy and elegance to a gentleman’s bar cart or side table, perhaps as a stylish holder for cocktail picks or swizzle sticks. A memorable gift for the cocktail connoisseur or anyone who appreciates fine antique silver.

By the mid-19th century, it was a leading name in British silver, producing elegant tableware, cutlery, and decorative pieces. In 1902, the firm was acquired by James Dixon & Sons.
