For the pugilist … a pair of authentic Goldsmith leather boxing gloves, model number J216, dating from the 1930s. Made in Cincinnati by P. Goldsmith Sons Co., these 9-inch lace-up gloves are in exceptional condition and feature deep oxblood leather with cream-colored lacing panels and original ties. As an outstanding artifact of early American sporting equipment, they would make a striking display in a gentleman’s study, office, or home gym and a considered gift for the boxing enthusiast or collector.
P. Goldsmith Sons Co. was founded in Cincinnati in 1894 by Philip Goldsmith and by the early 1900s had developed into a major American sporting goods manufacturer. They were the first company to produce machine-stitched baseballs, and in the 1930s, carried more than 700 different sports products, including equipment for baseball, boxing, football and tennis. The company was acquired by Brunswick in 1958.

Condition notes: Exceptional overall condition, with leather remaining firm and well preserved and color strong and even throughout. No cracking, flaking, separation, loose seams, or fraying observed. Stitching is tight and consistent across both gloves. “GoldSmith J216” is clearly legible on each glove, though slightly more faded on the left. A small amount of leather dye transfer is visible along the white leather band across the interior/palm of both gloves. Laces show minor age-related staining but remain fully intact, including original metal aglets at each end. No splits, repairs, or distortion noted. Other items in photos not included.
