W. Marples & Sons was a Sheffield-based tool manufacturer founded in the 1820s. Originally focused on chisels, augers, and planes, the firm quickly built a reputation for craftsmanship and reliability. After becoming W. Marples & Sons in 1861, the company expanded its product lines, and by the early 20th century was supplying tradesmen across Britain and its colonies.

The brass top plate shows minimal tarnish, and the single spirit vial remains clear and functional. Top plate is marked with the firm’s shamrock emblem, “W MARPLES & SONS, SHEFFIELD ENG” and “WARRANTED CORRECT.” On each side of the level is hand-stamped "D REED," likely from a previous owner.
