Mid-Century Wheat-Etched Mini Coupes by Sasaki (Pair) | Vintage Cocktail Glasses, Japan Barware

For the martini lover … an elegant pair of mid-century mini coupes by Sasaki, delicately etched with a wheat motif.  Each glass is 4-1/8" tall with a cut rim and holds 3 fluid ounces, making them the ideal size for a modest martini or Manhattan. We have six glasses available, offered as three pairs, all in excellent condition and ready for a gentleman’s bar cart or cocktail tray.

The etched wheat motif was a recurring design in postwar glassware, symbolizing prosperity and abundance. It appears frequently in mid-century bar and table sets, reflecting a period taste for naturalistic decoration.  On our glasses, the motif is especially well-executed, with fine etched lines and frosted heads that give the pattern a crisp, artful presence.

Sasaki traces its origins to 1902, when founder Sojiro Sasaki created a glass shop specializing in oil lamps.  By the 1930s the company had turned its focus to household glassware and had become a major Japanese producer, exporting its products worldwide.  In 2002 the firm merged with Toyo Glass to form Toyo-Sasaki Glass, now one of Japan’s leading glassmakers.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall. All six glasses are free of chips, cracks, or nicks, with surfaces clear and bright. Etched wheat decoration remains sharp and well defined. Rims are straight-cut and smooth to the touch, with no signs of wear. A few glasses display tiny air bubbles and minute inclusions from manufacture, barely visible except on close inspection—typical of mid-century production and not detracting from appearance or use. Glasses have been gently cleaned and are ready for service or display. Recommended for hand-wash only.  See photos for further detail and contact the shop with any questions prior to purchase.
