For the traditionalist … a regimental officer’s riding crop, dating to the 1930s-1940s, with nickel silver top engraved for the 14th/20th King’s Hussars. At 34 inches long, it features a cord-bound shaft, leather-wrapped handle, and original leather loop at the tip, all in excellent condition. High quality crops like this were both functional and symbolic, used on horseback and carried as part of an officer’s kit. As a distinctive piece of British military history, it would be a unique and treasured gift for a collector, equestrian, or anyone with an interest in regimental tradition.
The 14th/20th King’s Hussars were formed in 1922 by amalgamating the 14th (King’s) Hussars and the 20th Hussars. At the outbreak of the Second World War they were in India, later spearheading the 1941 invasion of Persia before fighting in the Middle East and Italy. In 1945, they famously took the fortified town of Medicina alongside the Gurkhas. The regiment remained active until 1992, when it merged into today’s King’s Royal Hussars.
Dimensions: 34” (including loop) x 7/8” (top) x 5/8” (top of cord-wrapped shaft)
Weight: 3.2 oz.
Condition Notes: Overall in excellent condition, displaying light wear consistent with age and use. Nickel silver top is well-preserved, showing scattered surface marks and a few minor dents from handling. No hallmarks or makers marks in evidence. Cap rotates slightly but remains secure in place and shows no sign of detachment. Insignia for the 14th/20th King’s Hussars is clearly defined. Cord-bound shaft shows light wear from use with very minor fraying, but otherwise binding is tight and secure throughout. Leather-wrapped handle retains an even surface with light patina. Original leather loop at the tip secured with cord and leather, showing normal wear but no structural weakness. Other items in photos not included.
