Pair of English Cordial Glasses c. 1890-1925 | Antique Port Glasses, Engraved Stemware

For the entertainer … a pair of English cordial glasses dating from about 1890–1925. Each stands 4 inches high, holds around 3 ounces, and is finely wheel-engraved with an interlocking oval repeat pattern. Traditionally blown and hand-finished with rounded rims and bright, clear bowls, they would make an inspired gift and an elegant addition to a gentleman’s drinks tray or home bar.

Glasses like these were brought out after dinner for port, sherry, or liqueurs.  They belong to a period at the turn of the 20th century when engraved stemware was a standard feature of British dining tables.  The generous size of our examples makes them more versatile than earlier, smaller cordial glasses, and as useful today as they were a century ago – ideal for dessert wines, aperitifs, and other small pours.

Condition Notes: Excellent antique condition overall, with no chips or cracks observed. Glass remains bright, clear, and transparent throughout, with no clouding or staining noted. Tiny seed bubbles and small occlusions are visible on close inspection, consistent with traditional blown and hand-finished glass of period. Undersides of bases show light scratches, likely resulting from original finishing process and subsequent careful use. One glass displays subtle wavy lines within bowl that are smooth to touch and appear integral to manufacture rather than later wear or damage. Engraved decoration remains crisp and well-defined throughout, with occasional small interruptions or gaps visible within pattern; these variations appear to be original characteristics of hand-applied engraving rather than signs of wear, damage, or loss. Other items shown in photos are not included.
