Pair of Hand-Blown Antique Port Glasses c. 1850-1880 | Petal Cut Victorian Barware

For the entertainer … a matched pair of antique English hand-blown port or sherry glasses, standing 4-3/4 inches tall and dating from around 1850 to 1880.  Glasses of this size were used at Victorian dining tables for small servings of fortified and dessert wines, particularly after dinner.  Ours hold 2-1/2 ounces and remain in superb antique condition, making them a distinctive addition to a drinks tray or gentleman’s home bar.  

Each glass has a rounded bowl with petal-cut facets, a round stem with a low knop, and a broad conical foot. Rounded fire-finished rims, slight hand-worked irregularities, and ground pontil marks beneath both feet are all consistent with mid- to late-Victorian hand production. Pleasingly solid in the hand, the pair combines restrained cutting with the clarity and tactile character of nineteenth-century English glass.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition overall. Bowls are clear and bright with no visible chips, cracks, scratches, cloudiness, staining, or rim wear. Petal-cut facets remain crisp and well-defined. Rounded fire-finished rims are smooth and intact. Stems and broad conical feet show no structural weakness, repairs, or significant wear, and both glasses sit evenly without wobble. Ground pontil marks remain visible beneath both feet, consistent with hand-finished manufacture. One glass contains a single small internal seed bubble formed during manufacture. Minor differences in shape and finish are consistent with individually hand-blown production. Other items in photos not included.
