For the Anglophile …  an authentic Eton College First Eight wool rowing cap (UK size 7) by historic retailer New & Lingwood.  Estimated to date from the 1960s-1970s, this cream cap with crossed light blue oars signifies selection to the school’s top crew, the prestigious First Eight.  These caps are rarely on the market, making this a unique find and a memorable gift for the discerning collector or rowing enthusiast.

Eton College, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, has long been synonymous with British privilege and excellence.  Alumni include prime ministers, royalty (including Princes William and Harry), and Olympic athletes. The First Eight (also known as the "1st VIII" or simply "The Eight") is the top rowing crew at the school, competing annually at the Henley Royal Regatta and other prestigious races.

New & Lingwood, founded in Eton in 1865, has long been the outfitter of choice for Eton students, supplying uniforms, formalwear, and sporting attire.  In 1922, the firm expanded to Jermyn Street in London, where they continue to uphold their reputation for traditional British tailoring and classic menswear.

Dimensions: 8” x 9” x 3” (approx.)
Weight: 2.2 ounces

Condition Notes: Overall excellent condition, with no fraying, visible wear, or other damage. Tiny, very light areas of stain are present on the bill (inside and out), on the interior lining, and at the rear of the cap; these may be cleanable, but we have not attempted to do so and recommend caution if cleaning is desired. Internal label reads “New & Lingwood — Eton, London & Cambridge,” which helps date this cap to the 1960s-1970s, as the Cambridge shop was closed after that period.  Fine stitching throughout and a polyester (?) lining on the interior.
