An elegant vintage English leather collar box including 10 original wing tip-style shirt collars of the period, possibly Edwardian. The box is in excellent condition with a rich, attractive patina and a stiff, butter yellow-colored (painted?) cardboard liner. Collars (size 14) are starched, tied, and a pristine white with no discernible stains or wear, as if they just came back from the cleaner.
Detachable collars were common in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were attached to the shirt by studs, and removed prior to washing. The leather box was primarily for storage but was also useful for travel. Wingtip collars were popular during the Edwardian era (1901-1910), but had fallen out of fashion by the 1930s.
A unique and special gift for the discerning gentleman with an eye for classic style. Would display beautifully on a side table or in a man’s study. Box is 6-1/2” in diameter and 3-1/2” high.
Condition Notes: Box is missing its leather strap and shows some minor discoloration consistent with age, but otherwise is in excellent vintage condition.
