For the reader … an antique English magnifying glass with mother-of-pearl handle, sterling silver collar (hallmarked for Sheffield 1904), and bright steel fittings. The 2-1/2 inch lens and 3-5/8-inch handle make it a handsome yet practical desk accessory—ideal for a gentleman’s desk or library shelf.

Magnifying glasses were standard reading tools in the Edwardian era, kept close by a writing slope or reference shelf.  On our piece, the sterling collar and mother of pearl handle—lightly carved to emphasize the natural iridescence—make it a higher-grade example than the more common horn or plated fittings of the day.  Its clean lines and understated form would add a touch of Edwardian elegance to a modern side table or nightstand.

Condition notes: Excellent antique condition throughout. Lens is clear and bright with no scratches, chips, clouding, or edge flaws noted. Steel rim and fittings are clean and straight, showing only very light surface wear consistent with age and careful handling. Sterling silver collar is crisp and well-defined, with clear hallmarks: lion passant, crown town mark for Sheffield, date letter “m” for 1904, and maker’s mark “OHB”.  Mother-of-pearl handle is secure and well preserved, with carved detailing intact and attractive natural iridescence; no cracks, chips, losses, or repairs observed. All components fit tightly with no looseness, wobble, or movement. Other items in photos not included.
