Vintage Bonzer 1/6 Gill Spirit Measure | Crown-Stamped English Pub Jigger

For the cocktail-lover … a vintage British 1/6 gill spirit measure (jigger) by Bonzer, crown-stamped and inspector-numbered (752 over 70) with the Bonzer maker’s mark clearly stamped inside the base.  Constructed from sturdy nickel-plated brass, this compact pre-metric pub measure was built for everyday bar service and retains the clean, purposeful design typical of mid-century British bar tools.  It makes an ideal gift for the mixologist and would add a note of authenticity to a gentleman’s home bar or drinks tray.

In Imperial terms, a gill was one-quarter of a pint, and fractions of it were used to accurately pour whisky and spirits for centuries. The 1/6 gill capacity equals roughly 0.8 fluid ounces. Measures like this one were certified by local weights-and-measures inspectors and stamped with a crown verification mark to confirm that the vessel held the legally defined volume. Crown-stamped examples such as this were everyday working tools behind pub counters and hotel bars before the United Kingdom gradually transitioned to metric spirit measures in the late twentieth century.

Bonzer began producing barware in the 1930s and quickly became a favorite of bartenders who valued durability over flash. Their pre-metric metal measures, especially the crown-stamped versions, have earned a quiet following among collectors for their heft, utility, and unmistakably British character.

Condition notes: Excellent vintage condition overall with only light surface marks from age and handling. Nickel-plated finish remains bright and even throughout with no dents, distortions, or damage to the rolled rim or body profile. Stamping is crisp and fully legible, including “1/6 GILL,” the Bonzer maker’s mark, and the official crown verification mark with inspector numbers “752” over “70.” Two tiny areas of plate loss are present on the interior rim at the base of the measure, visible only on close inspection. Interior is otherwise clean and base shows minimal signs of prior use. Measure retains its original weight, shape, and balance with no structural issues or repairs.
