For the man of numbers … a charming English vintage box set of ten wooden rubber stamps, in remarkable condition, possibly from the 1950s or earlier. Stamps (1-1/2” high) are numbered 0-9 and show little sign of use. Cardboard box is covered with brown paper of a linen texture, slightly scuffed on top edge and showing the remnants of an original label. A really quaint set that would make a fun gift for an artist, educator, or anyone who likes numbers.
Wood-mounted rubber stamps of this type were widely used in Britain in the first half of the 20th century, and were common staples in schools, offices, and small businesses. Numbered sets like this were most often employed for ticketing, document numbering, classroom exercises, or marking inventory, before self-inking stamps became commonplace.
