Vintage Hart & Hertel Wooden Cigar Mold, c. 1925-1937 | Interwar German Tobacciana

For the cigar lover … a vintage Hart & Hertel wooden cigar mold made in Schwetzingen, Germany, and dating to around 1925-1937.  Measuring 22 inches long, it’s constructed of solid beechwood with spaces for 20 cigars. Its honest wear, rich patina, and long, repeating rows of cigar-shaped channels make it a particularly striking display piece for a gentleman’s home bar, smoking room, or library shelf.

Hart & Hertel was founded in Mannheim in 1910 after Karl Hart developed a patented cigar-pressing apparatus in 1908. The company moved to nearby Schwetzingen in 1911 and became one of Germany’s leading suppliers of cigar molds and equipment for the tobacco industry. Our piece is one half of a two-part commercial cigar mold, used after cigars were bunched and bound to hold them in shape under pressure before the final wrapper leaf was applied.

Most individual cigar channels show small chips, edge losses, and breaks to wood consistent with age and use, especially at both ends of each channel; these do not detract from overall appearance or display appeal. Rear panel shows age-related marks, scratches, darkening, and two circular marks at one end that appear to be residue from felt pads or similar. Alignment pegs remain present and secure. Beechwood surface has been lightly cleaned and waxed to remove surface grime while preserving original patina. Cigar box in photos not included.
