For the fisherman … a charming 3-inch Nottingham-style wooden fishing reel, likely 1920-40, with ratchet on-off check clicker, brass footing and back plate, and ebonite handles on brass mounts. Stamped “Made in England” on footing. A lovely patina, rich varnish, and brass fittings make this ideal for displaying on a favorite desk or side table. Spool runs freely and on-off ratchet works as designed. A perfect gift for the angler or boating enthusiast.
Nottingham-style reels, so called because they were built in or around Nottingham, England, are typically light, free-running, wooden reels designed for river fishing. They resemble fly reels, and some were used for fly fishing, but the majority were used for bait fishing.
Dimensions: Spool: 3” diameter x 1-3/4”, Footing 2-1/2”
Condition Notes: Minor indentations and scratches under varnish and consistent with age. See photos for more detail or contact us with questions.
